| PlanetX64 | The Tempest is a hit and miss for looks, but for functionality, ease of build and price point the tempest has quite a bit going for it. It is easily superior to the Case Nine Hundred having more room, better cooling, the ability to install a dual fan radiator (without modification), and much easier to build your system into. I think that NZXT is on the right track with the way they have designed the Tempest but might want to do a little more work on the appearance. While the Tempest might not win any beauty contests it certainly has it where it counts on the inside. Though it lacks a removable tray, installing a new motherboard and parts is very easy as it is very roomy. The price of the Tempest is also very affordable, selling at just about $120. NZXT has delivered another impressive case. Though we think its designs were somewhat comparable on an Antec P900, we still liked it regardless. Solid design, functional parts, aesthetically pleasing, makes the Tempest a very good choice for an enthusiast case. It easily rivals the likes of the Antec 900 and others that people are regarding as excellent case when it comes to air ventilation. For a mere $100 or less it is a price at the point where it cannot be over looked by the would-be consumer. For those that wish to water-cool this case it has a lot to offer in this aspect as well. With very little modification rads can be placed in the front of the case as well as the top for a double loop setup. To fit the need of all your internal components the Tempest has a wide open space to work with. Also there is more than enough room to accommodate as many drives you need. It seems like a fairly simple notion; lots of fans, and a simple, uncluttered design to deliver maximum airflow. In this respect, it succeeds. It also offers quite a bit of drive bay space, and a flexible configuration to allow for more 5.25" drive bays if you remove the HDD cages; though in this case you'll have to sacrifice one of the front 120mm fans.This case also offers quite a bit of room inside for an easy installation, which I consider to be very important. Cable management is fairly easy and the tool-less options make drive installation straightforward. About the only problems I had was the need to remove the front panel to remove drive bay covers and the plastic top, which felt less sturdy than the rest of the case.But all of this needs to be taken into context; the current price of the Tempest is about ~$100 or so online. Having all components installed and running, the case has made a positive impression on me over the past two weeks. I initially wasn't sure of some of the styling accents, and I guess you can say I'm still unsure. Styling is always a subjective matter that I'll allow you to decide based on the photos provided. What has really impressed me about this case is the features and flexibility they have managed to include. NZXT included six near silent fans, space for eight hard drives, and mounts to internally install a dual 120mm radiator for water cooling, all while providing more than enough room to install any video card. However, after spending some time getting to know the Tempest, I have to say that NZXT has a quality product on their hands and is quickly becoming a strong competitor in the world of computer enclosures.the Tempest is still pretty quiet considering the number of fans. The noise level is very low and would be fine for all but the most demanding users. | Phoronix | If you're after a case that can accommodate a good number of fans and easily supports water cooling, the NZXT Tempest did live up to its name of being an airflow king. While it may be an airflow king, the Tempest isn't a king among all cases. The two 140mm fans and four 120mm fans come at a cost of noise. The case is built well with steel construction, but there is still some plastic to be found around this case. The aesthetics are nice especially with blue LEDs for the front panel and side fans, but from our perspective it isn't the best we've seen. When installing the extended ATX Tyan motherboard, it was a tight fit for this case and ended up causing issues with the hard drive cages. What's nice about this case, however, is the airflow and that its price point, which comes in at just under $100 USD! With a current street price of $109 plus shipping it is in the same price bracket as the ever-so-popular $99.99 Antec Nine Hundred hardcore gaming case. To compare these two cases one will find that they are similar in style, but the Tempest has a little more going for it; it can hold up to 8 hard drives and the top of the case is designed so that it can mount some of the most common dual 120mm water cooling radiators to it with out modifications. Buying a case is obviously a personal decision, but it would be hard to go wrong with the Tempest. With the MSRP of $99 the price and performance value is really good with the Tempest since it comes with all six case fans already installed.
