Ultimately, the H2 is a simple but solid case made more appealing by its super-low price tag. At just 100 bucks, you’re getting a sturdy chassis with USB 3.0, a drop-down SATA dock, and an innovative fan configuration. Minor inclusions, like a slide-out dust filter below your PSU, and the aforementioned sound-dampening foam, are awesome additions for a case at the H2’s price point.

The scary thing about the H2 is there’s no noise. I powered it on and thought something was wrong because I couldn’t hear anything. I don’t know what NZXT is doing to dampen the sound but it’s damn wonderful. I still occasionally look at the front to see if the lights on when I sit down cuz it’s too damn quiet. I highly recommend the NZXT H2 case and if you are looking for a power supply to go with it, try the Hale90.

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the NZXT H2 Classic case, especially as it’s currently $99.99 on Newegg and Amazon. It delivers on its claims of quiet computing, and with mesh filters to keep dust out and good cable management, it’s a good setup for clean airflow—especially if the case is upgraded with two more fans. The three-speed fan controller and SATA bay are also a great bonus. The case is easy to open and get inside, especially the front-mounted fans. Plus, I rather dig its simplistic, professional appearance—no gaudy colors or angles, just pure classiness.

THINKCOMPUTERS: 9/10

The case was very quiet, even when having the fans on 100% power. While airflow isn’t the greatest in a case like this, it really isn’t designed to keep your components at their coolest. NZXT has done a great job in countering the silent for cooling, by integrating as many components which can have a dual benefit for both cooling and silence.

I really enjoy some of the features NZXT has added to the H2, like the top panel covers, hot swappable hard drive, and easy to remove components. This case has a lot going for it for being a silent case. It can be found online anywhere from $90 on up to $120, depending on where you look, which seems pretty reasonable for a silent case of this quality. Overall ThinkComputers would like to award the NZXT H2 Silent Midtower Chassis a 9 out of 10 score and our Editors Choice Award.

Given all of the positive things I have had to say about the NZXT H2 Classic Series Silent midtower case so far it earns the Bigbruin.com "Highly Recommended" award. And because it includes a few fans, has a built-in fan speed controller, and includes some sound dampening material, it also earns the Bigbruin.com "Whisper Quiet" award.

Pros:

» Built in fan controller for factory installed fans
» Top hot swap capable SATA HDD Dock
» Best 5.25" bay device covers
» 25mm space behind motherboard

The H2 has a tough role to fill as a sub $100 silent PC chassis.  I found the black finish and smooth lines a bit somber but attractive.  The top panels are at odds with the look but most users will probably not end up messing with them as much in practice.  The interior layout is more basic with some nice options for cable management and a nice matching finish.  Installation is easy and mostly tool-less.

Good Things
Attractive finish
Budget friendly sound insulation
Loads of storage potential
Near tool-less design

Tech Report:

The NZXT H2 has piqued the interest of many computer enthusiasts for its combination of clean looks, accommodating internals, and attention to noise levels. While the "Silent" part of its title might be something of a misnomer, the case does offer good value for money. At $99.99, I feel the asking price is spot-on for what you get in return: a quality case with decent cable management capabilities, plenty of drive bays, and some flourishes like rubber grommets and anti-vibration pads throughout.

Most of the criticisms I can offer are pretty minor. Things like powder-coated thumb screws that can't be removed by hand are annoying, but not deal breakers. The front of the case has an interesting brushed/mirrored black finish, which looks great when clean but collects more fingerprints than the NYPD. Also, the rubber inserts for the cable management holes really need to be made of a sturdier material or mounted better.

To wrap things up, the NZXT H2 Classic Silent case can reasonably cope with the demands of high end parts, despite its desire for peace and quiet. Beyond that, it gives you ample opportunities to crank the cooling up to 11, with easily replaceable front fans, water-cooling readiness, and places for two additional air-movers. Easily accessibly dust filters and a sweet, built-in SATA hard drive dock round out the high points of this case, making it a solid value for your case-buying dollar.

Luckily I've managed to see the white version in person as well and it looks great, more so on the inside with just the right balance of black accents. Regardless of preference, users are sure to be satisfied. NZXT has a winner on its hands with the H2.

Although the NZXT H2 Silent Classic Mid-Tower PC Chassis is a bit plain looking compared to some of NZXT’s other PC cases it still is a nice looking case for those who don’t want clear panels and/or lots of LEDs.  Its black monolithic style gives it an industrial appearance.

For those who value silence then the NZXT H2 Silent Classic Mid-Tower PC Chassis is an excellent choice whether you use it for your gaming rig or as a workstation as there is plenty of room for expansion.  The H2 can be so quiet that when the fan speeds are set on low the front door light on the bottom corner may be the only indication that the PC is on. It has some minor flaws but priced at under $100 those can be easily accepted for such a versatile case.

DragonSteelMods gives the NZXT H2 Silent Classic Mid-Tower a 4.5 out of 5 score.

The NZXT H2 mid-tower case combines the classic good looks and quiet operation of the full-tower Whisper, with the small footprint of the Hush. Sprinkle in a slew of updated bits like painted interior chassis, hot-swap removable fans, external hard drive dock and USB3 port, and what you've got is a great mid-tower case that should please just about anyone. I say just about because obviously some users will not care for the understated, conservative or "plain" look and will demand a case with windows, lights, etc. and look elsewhere.

Using solid side panels and a front door allows NZXT to get away with large sections of noise-dampening foam on the inside, which plays a large part in making this case super quiet. All of the fan openings except for the rear exhaust are covered, yet still allow some airflow to take place via an indirect route. And the three-way built in fan controller regulates the included fans' speed anywhere from mildly audible down to just plain silent. Leaving the front door panel open or the top cover off will allow more noise to escape the interior obviously, however this is far from objectionable even with the fans set at the highest setting.

NZXT still hasn't fixed the rubber grommet issue we've raised with previous designs, and using one or more really long video cards is quickly going to eat up your available hard drive space. But there's always the external dock if you only need one drive, or a 3½-to-5¼" adapter for that matter. I do wish they'd just go back to a rolled-edge hole design however.

The NZXT H2 is available in two color choices, either black or white, and is available online in the $90 to $100 range. That's not a bad price to pay for a feature-rich and good looking chassis like this.

OCIA.net awards the NZXT H2 Classic Silent Mid-Tower our Gold Seal of Approval.

I loved the tool-less design on the H2, it made for an easy installation. In fact putting the drives in was actually fun, taking off the fan with just a pinch and sliding it in and hearing that nice little click letting me know everything is safe, mmm that’s how it should be. That leads me to another nice thing about this case, the fans. It comes with three fans built in and a fan speed control on the chassis. A nice little touch that definitely adds to the design of the case overall. If you are concerned about the noise from the fans or the components of you rig the main feature of the NZXT H2 will help. All the sides are lined with noise dampening foam. I found that the foam did help with the noise which makes sense it being a silent case haha but, sometimes you come across a case that can't keep its promises, certainly not the case with this chassis. Another super sweet feature is the hot-swappable drive bay on the top of the case, and its on the top, with a cover panel held by magnets. Very cool indeed. Final thing to note about the H2 is the aesthetics, it looks very nice with the brushed aluminium front panel that’s clean of any buttons, plus the top with the cool cover panels. The whole case has a clean but spiffy look to it that I for one quite enjoy.

So would I recommend it? Yeah totally. Its got great features, its quiet, and it looks great.

Pros:
Silent design
USB 3.0 and 2.0 on case
hot-swappable bay
tool-less installation
Looks great

Cons:
none come to mind

NZXT’s Classic case may not look all that impressive, but once you open up the case you’ll find some rather nice touches throughout.

With many handy features built into the design of the Classic, how impressive is it when it comes to cable management and space — to some, the most important part of a computer build? With an ASUS GTX 580, included fans, and five hard drives, the 25mm spacing behind the back panel really made setup and building easier than the midtower footprint would suggest. For references sake — it was far more roomy than our usual Coolermaster Storm Scout. Simply put: the NZXT Classic is much roomier than it seems.

We really like the ample interior space and cable management possibilities the 25mm back side of the case offers. Nonetheless, we feel that at even at $99 the H2 Classic is a good buy especially for those who want a whisper quiet PC without sacrificing innovative features such as the top-mounted external hard drive bay and cordless fans.

"The most important part, of course, is the cooling and noise dampening capability, which the NZXT H2 does very well. Another feature of note is the excellent cable management option. There are plenty of spaces to route cables and store them properly, so that the main chamber is free of obstruction. In case the user wants better thermal performance, the NZXT H2 can accommodate another exhaust fan at the top or another intake fan at the bottom. This feature, combined with the built-in fan controller, makes the NZXT H2 one of the most flexible, high-performance, silent mid-tower gaming case in the market."

"Our Rating for NZXT H2 Silent Classic Mid-Tower PC Chassis Review (hardware)
9.0 Construction
Sturdy with a fine attention to detail (like the removal of hazardous sharp corners) and a very well thought out design make this an all around winner. Only concern is optical drive vibration being transmitted to the case resulting in some noise and a power supply can really bring the noise up.

9.5 Installation
A good solid fit with components being snug but not needing to be forced into position. Nice tool-less design as well.

9.0 End-user
For someone looking for a highly functional and quiet case in a simple and sleek external package, this definitely fits the bill. Good access to extra ports on the top along with the external eSATA dock.

9.0 Style
Sleek and slim. Almost elegant in its simplicity with just a hint of flash here and there.

9.0 Functionality
It certainly does all it is supposed to do, looks good doing it and is easy to work with. It’s not ultra-quiet as at 100% you can hear the fans, but at 40 and 70% they’re quiet overall.

9.0 Overall
A great example of high-end features in a simple and elegant case with sound-dampening to make it sound as good as it looks. The easy installation just adds to the overall quality of the product."

"Besides me maybe being a little picky about the wire management and flow impediments, the NZXT H2 Classic has a solid foundation for someone who wants a quiet, unique, good looking case that can house the latest hardware and not be overrun with excess heat — or noise for that matter. Though the temperatures weren't superb, the option to add two more fans into the case could definitely be taken advantage of and really help the chipset and GPU temperatures. So for those looking for a stylish and quiet case, the NZXT H2 Classic would be a perfect suit for those desiring around the $100 mark."

"This is one excellent case. Its syling might be classic and a few average Joe’s may consider £80 too much to spend on a case, but for everyone else this is one you simply must take a peak at when buying a new chassis. Its got good cooling that’s quiet, excellent sound proofing, USB 3.0 support, bottom mounted PSU with dust filters, pre-organised cables and room for more. The interior paint job is consistent and the exterior one is nice and uniform.

Really, what more could you want from a case in this price bracket?"

Ruhe Bitte!

"NZXT has set out to make this a quiet, inexpensive case with their H2 Classic line and have achieved it. I cannot test if the foam on all the panels or the rubber mounts for the hard drives worked, or if it was just quiet fans (they are!). The point is, in its stock form it was pretty quiet even up to 100% fan speeds. Having the ability to control the fans control on the top was quite a feature to have in the price range and I applaud that addition. I really only had one problem with this machine and that was with fighting the grommets. That should be taken care of with a tighter fitting grommet or some glue. With that minor quip aside, installation was easy being essentially tool-less and there is plenty of room inside the case for 12″ cards and 170 mm CPU heatsinks. The white color isn’t my style, but I can appreciate it’s a classy looking and quiet case. With an MSRP of $99.99 this case should be on your budget mid tower list for sure. It should be out on your store or e-tailer’s shelves soon!"

"There is a lot to like about NZXT's new H2 case and that starts with a main body which feels very solid. The steel construction had no noticeable defects or flimsy sections and other than one minor blemish on the inside (unique to our sample) the paintwork was applied well. The front plastic section is security attached and it was great to see items such as USB 3.0 present on this case along with nice touches like pre secured wiring in place. The only minor issue with build quality is that the rubber sections used to line the case wiring holes need to be sturdier as they come loose too easily when larger or multiple wires are passed through.

Temperatures recorded in the H2 were good for a mid-tower but it is the noise levels which are a real selling point. The fans used by NZXT are incredibly quiet and we have no doubt that the other components installed in the system, such as the CPU and GPU coolers will be noisier than these components so the H2 is a great base to work from when building a low noise system.

For value, NZXT have the H2 priced appropriately. At £85/$99 it is hard to find a case which offers as good a design with as many features as the H2.

Summary
In the sub £90/$100 marketplace the NZXT H2 offers an attractive, high quality, spacious and feature packed experience. The low noise fans are a real highlight."

"The biggest thing the H2 Classic has going for it is the noise level, or rather lack of it. With the sound absorbing foam on the side and front panels of the case along with the quiet fans, the case produces almost no noise at all. In fact, once during testing I thought my computer was turned off because of the lack of any sound coming from the case.

Overall, the H2 Classic is an impressive case. The cable management options are good, it is very quiet and with 8 hard drive bays there is plenty of room on the inside to hold almost anything you need for a computer."

"The NZXT should arrive on the market sometime in April 2011 with a street price of about ~US$100. It's a pretty good value given its unique array of features. For housing a modest, quiet system, the H2 is one of the better choices on the market as it has quiet fans, fan control, and noise dampening foam. If you're looking for a chassis for a more high performance PC, it has enough clearance for both tall CPU heatsinks and long graphics cards, but just note that you will need better than average cooling to make up for the lack of airflow. For these types of systems, the Fractal Design Define R2/R3 is a better choice, though it lacks many of little niceties offered by the H2."

"After the recent success of the Fractal Design Define series, a lot of manufacturers are aiming to offer silent cases or revisit their past offerings. The NZXT H2 is a viable alternative to the Define R3, offering a very different feature set with multiple advantages over the Fractal Design case, but also costs a tad bit more. You get USB 3.0 and the hot-swap bay on top, which is something Fractal Design does not offer, besides that the H2 takes a different approach to a similar feature set. You will get sound dampening in form of soft material instead of something thin and dense, hard drive rails which are accessible from the outside of the chassis, all black interior with a noticeable grain, making it very scratch resistant. This makes the NZXT H2 a serious contender in this market segment and a well thought out chassis."

PRO

    * Materiale fono assorbente installato nel case
    * Possibilità di montare ventole da 140mm sul tetto
    * Design
    * Usb 3.0 sul tetto
    * Vano hot swap sul tetto

CONTRO

    * Nulla da segnalare"

"The bottom line is: NZXT H2 breaks away from current trends by offering something much sleeker in an excellent foam underlayed chassis with fan control and USB3.0 functionality. Not forgetting that the H2 is tool-less throughout and has bags of space behind the motherboard tray making it one of the easiest cases to get your components into."

"Naming aside, what's the verdict? As I just said, the H2 is definitely packed with features and small, nice details. The hot-swap drive bay is maybe the most obvious one, but I really liked the front access hard drive bays and the intake fans with power connectors. Also the installation is largely tool free, which is always a plus. Unlike some cases that try to pack all the features in the world, the basics are also there, all the stuff works well and the frame is well built and sturdy. The three fans, combined with the fan controller, also proved to be quiet enough for most users."

"Overall, I'm happy with the H2. I think it would make for nice workstation PC, or even a quiet file sever off in the corner. There is enough room in the case that even an enthusiast looking for a classy looking home for their system would be happy as well. There isn't much room internally for water cooling, but there are tubing pass through holes that will allow for an externally mounted solution.

NZXT says that the H2 will be available early April and carry an MSRP of $99.99, but when places like Newegg get a hold of it the H2 could come in lower, which will make it even more attractive. NZXT also told us that the H2 will carry a 2 year warranty and will also be available in white.

Legit Bottom Line: The H2 from NZXT is a very nice solidly built case that is also very quiet. It carries an MSRP of $99.99 and a 2 year warranty. If you're in the market for a classy looking case with some nice features and a reasonable asking price, look at the H2."
