If you've been comparing the original Avatar and new Avatar S features up to this point and consider it mostly a wash, I've saved the best bit for last. I found the Avatar S selling at several places online for around $30. That's half the original Avatar's $59.99 MSRP! At that price point you might expect some cheap no-name or off brand device with buggy drivers, but NZXT's software works great and the hardware seems built to last, as we can attest our original Avatar mouse is still performing fine even after three years of abuse.

The Pure Point: Handy ambidextrous design and an attractive price, but the very slender shape and smaller size of the NZXT Avatar S won't be for everyone.

Aside from a couple of minor complaints the NZXT Avatar S is a decent gaming mouse. At $40 it’s one of the least expensive gaming mice available. It’s a great choice for folks who prefer lightweight mice with a thinner profile. We’re happy to award it the Icrontic Detroit Hustle award for value, because if you want to dip your toes into the world of gaming-specific peripherals, this is a good place to start, and it’s not going to break the bank.

Overall, if you are looking for a new mouse, you may want to keep an eye on the NZXT Avatar S, and if the price is right, I would say go ahead and give it a try. The mouse does look great as well as perform quite well, but for my style of gaming I would not be using this mouse as a first choice, as it does feel a little too long. However, that would not stop me from using it on a different machine that does not get used for gaming.

The Avatar S is an inexpensive mouse at $39.99. It provides a top of the line image sensor and has good customization potential.  It’s hard to knock its lack of weight control at this price, and for an ambidextrous mouse it’s extremely comfortable in both hands. You may be unhappy that it’s no 13-button Logitech G700. But it’s not meant to be. It’s a simple, functional mouse for about half as much money.

If you want a budget gaming mouse, you can’t go wrong with NZXT’s Avatar S.

Overall, the NZXT Avatar S Laser gaming USB mouse did great.  It tracked excellently on all surfaces I tried it on. It works well for left and right handed people. The software for it is simple to use and not confusing. The Avatar S does not have a lot of adjustments when it comes to the Polling Rate - only three settings. However, it does have a good bit of adjustment options when it comes to the DPI settings and the Sensitivity. The extra long USB cable is very nice as well. You won't have to worry about whether your mouse will reach your PC tower if it is on your desk, floor or a small table next to your desk. The NZXT Avatar S Laser USB Gaming Mouse can be found on the internet at several different sites in the US for about $40. Which I think makes it very affordable and a great choice! So, if you are in the market for a new mouse the NZXT Avatars S Laser USB Gaming mouse would be a great mouse to consider.

The Avatar S features a solid selection of buttons, a simple and straightforward setup, elegant and stylish aesthetics in a no-nonsense package, and all at a reasonable price of about $40 for the gaming market segment. Consumers, and gamers in particular, want a mouse not only to work well, but to work simply. And the Avatar S does just that, allowing just about anyone to slip it on for size and just move effortlessly from the get-go.

The Avatar S impressed me. For a simple box and small mouse I thought I wouldn't be impressed, but I was. Thanks NZXT, you've shown that gaming mice can be light and quick as well as looking great.
The punch extends into pricing, too. Newegg sells the NZXT Avatar S mouse for just $39.99. This is an amazing price from NZXT, something that should really bring people in to take a look at the mouse.

Sleek with modern lines and an eye-catching lighting effect, the NZXT isn't your normal looking gaming mouse. It's elegant but offers added flair with blue LED lighting that reminds me of the Microsoft Habu mouse - only better. The Avatar S does come in two colors - white and black so it goes with a variety of gaming setups visually. It is a wired mouse, though, so be prepared to be tethered by the cable.

Why pick the Avatar S over the many other gaming mice? For starters it’s affordable. While high-end custom PCs get a fair amount of media attention, everyday gamers on a budget will appreciate the low cost of entry with the Avagar S. Second, the Avatar S looks damn good in both black and white. Finally, the overall feel of the mouse is quite good. The narrow grip gives the mouse a sense of speed and lightness that isn’t particularly easy to replicate.

How much do we like the Avatar S? Enough to split at least 50% of our gaming time between the Avatar S and G500. Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.

The user can also change the orientation from left and right handed, and I can imagine that something like this can really improve one’s game. Clearly, I need to be more into MMORPGs to really appreciate the subtleties of the Avatar S.

If you are the type who would appreciate a mouse like this, head over to the NZXT site and check it out for yourself. The current price on the online store is about $39.99.

Not everyone wants a weighted mouse with a dozen reprogrammable buttons and a configuration software that looks like it was made by NASA. Those super mice repel the less demanding user, the one who just wants a peripheral that is superior to the model used at the office but that doesn't cost a fortune or have more functions than needed. If you are like that, then maybe the NZXT Avatar S mouse might be the one you are looking for.

"Where we really found the Avatar S to shine was on the customization front. With five programmable keys it is easy to create macros, and with 16Kb of on-board memory all the macros can be stored internally. This makes it ideal for gamers that frequently transfer their mouse between rigs or frequent LAN-parties. Additionally, the Avatar S can store settings relevant to the DPI and LED settings. So, in all this is a very customizable mouse that can be easily configured.

Another feature that we really liked about the Avatar S is the ambidextrous design. With a symmetrical shape the Avatar S is able to fit the needs of both right and left handed gamers, without any modifications. We feel this is a strong selling point of the Avatars S, as most products on the market are predominantly designed for right handed users. Add to this a quick response rate and an adjustable DPI settings that can be set at either 400, 800 or 1600 DPI, and you have a precision gaming weapon regardless of which hand you use.

In all the Avatar S is a good gaming mouse that has plenty of customizable features and a unique ambidextrous design, but only pick this one up if light-weight and low-profile is already your preferred standard.

The Avatar S is launching with a MSRP of $39.99, and will be available in either white or black. This makes it extremely affordable for a mouse of this caliber."
