2600DPI ambidextrous compact mouse
Introducing the first gaming mouse from the award winning NZXT design team, as with all of NZXT’s PC accessories, Avatar is designed to provide gamers with the ultimate crafted gaming armor to emerge victorious in the gaming arena of choice. Featuring a ambidextrous and smaller form, the Avatar mouse is versatile and ideal for gamers. A hardware implemented DPI switching allows compatibility with any game, and the Avatar interface allows for all types of customization including macros and 9 customizable buttons. Extruded Teflon mouse feet also allows for better accuracy and smoothness during gameplay.
“NZXT's Avatar is a first sign of good things to come. NZXT has delivered a solid mouse that fits both left and right handed gamers but manages to keep a shape that gamers and non-gamers will love. Once the software is refined and updates are released, the Avatar will be a prime contender in the gaming mouse market.”
“All in all, the NZXT Avatar is a solid first entry into the gaming mouse market. While its smallish design won’t fit all gamers, those who it does fit will find themselves holding a very capable, well designed mouse. We give the NZXT Avatar a Buy! rating.”
“Considering the precision options, comfortable placement of buttons and ergonomic design, I’d say fifty or sixty bucks is a worthwhile investment for what is essentially a great price. Be it inside our outside of gaming, this is a pretty nifty mouse that any buyer would be happy with.”
“For new gamers the NZXT Avatar is a great gateway mouse to start on. The design allows left or right-handed players, which is a key bonus, and the mouse also delivers respectable performance in action. The size and shape of the mouse mean that players with longer hands will no longer have their palms dragging on their mouse mats or desks which is a relief for many.”
“The Avatar is a NZXT's attempt to enter the gaming peripheral market, and as far as we are concerned it's a rather good product. With its sleek, elegant look, precise 2600 DPI sensor and that soft blue LED backlight, the Avatar is one of the coolest looking mice that has ever entered our lab. It has an ambidextrous design so left-handed users will feel like at home with this mouse.”
I have always enjoyed the benefits for a notebook cooler, sacrificing a little bit of peace and quietness to maintain reasonable laptop temperatures. This is particularly important during the summer when ambient temperatures are generally higher than normal. Powerful laptops generally don't have the internal cooling capabilities of a desktop PC but accessories like NZXT's Cryo S definitely help…. I highly recommend the Cryo S for your notebook
The Avatar is simple to set up, simple to use, comfortable for hours at a time, and above all ambidextrous. If you’re looking for something long and narrow, this is where it’s at.
NZXT’s first attempt at making a gaming mouse is quite a success. The overall look, the features, the performance and the design rival those of the more popular mice sold on the market. Given its 2600dpi infrared sensor and low profile, the Avatar becomes an ideal mouse for any gamers looking to excel. Comfort-wise, the Avatar proves to be excellent for claw gripping, but it becomes awkward with the palm grip and this drawback limits its range of uses. Its ambidextrous design ensures that both left and right handed users will be able to enjoy the mouse. Customization is a selling factor of this mouse, and it is well exploited with the NZXT software and driver.
The NZXT Avatar has a good list of features and a great ergonomic feel to it. Sure it's light and the inclusion of some weight adjustments would be a great addition. The Avatar is a great first effort from NZXT and they are definately headed in the right direction when it comes to gaming mice. Besides there are no perfect mice and we'd all like to see some feature or other added that we don't currently have. For the most part the mouse performed well a gaming mouse.
I really liked this mouse it is a great first attempt (as far as I know) at gaming peripherals for NZXT. The design and sleek LED’s make is definitely catch your eye at first glance and the fact it has higher DPI than the first G5’s to come out makes it worth a second look. One thing I found funny is that it matches up with the G15 from Logitech better than the G5. Esthetics aside This mouse performs very well for more RTS and FPS gaming and another great price point is that it works for all ages and both right and left handed users which gives you a little more versatility that your average gaming mouse.
Would I recommend this mouse? Sure, if you are going to spend the money and the Logitech mice are too bulky for you than the NZXT is a great choice. Also as I mentioned if you are lefty I strongly suggest getting this mouse for gaming you wont regret it.
Another piece of good news is that since its original launch, the Avatar can now be found at many online resellers, starting around $59.99 MSRP and under. That puts it right in line with similar gaming mice from competing manufacturers. The original Avatar Gaming Mouse earned our Seal of Approval the last go around, and thanks to NZXT for taking a good product and making it even better!
As I mentioned in the intro, the best just got better, and I stand by that remark, the NZXT Avatar is an all around excellent mouse for everyday use and gaming.
The changes NZXT made are for the better really, the smaller profile side buttons work well, they now can’t be accidentally pressed as easily as the original, but yet they are still accessible.
The scroll wheel is stiffer than the original, but I like it that way, and it should loosen up a bit after a while. The scroll wheel button is a bit more sensitive than the original Avatar, but after a couple days I found I was accustomed to it and didn’t accidentally press it as often, I’m sure after a month of usage I’ll be fully aware of its sensitivity and all will be good.
The NZXT Avatar is one of the the best mice on the market today, and the changes have only made it better.
"...the Avatar is an excellent mouse for a beginning gamer who's ready to take his peripherals to the next level or anyone else who has the need for a highly accurate, sensitive mouse."
With its ambidextrous design, 7 programmable buttons, and on-the-fly DPI switching, the Avatar has turned out to be a fairly competitive entry into the gaming mouse market. Sporting a slick look, LED lighting, and Teflon pads for ease of movement, NZXT has designed a commendable mouse that any gamer would be happy to own.
This may be NZXT's first foray into gaming mice, but they have produced a solid initial offering. The Avatar seems to mix elements from other popular gaming mice with a bit of NZXT's own innovation to create a recommendable product.
Overall, this is a good-quality mouse, and I was surprised by how impressed I was with NZXT's first attempt at a gaming peripheral. Offering flexibility, speed and style, you can now affordably frag your friends with silky smoothness. The ability to switch on the fly easily without having to flip the mouse over makes the 2600 DPI Avatar a worthy choice for a gaming enthusiast... as long as you don't mind a lightweight offering.
This mouse plugs into any USB port and works with any computer. However, its special software features are only available for Windows XP/Vista, so if you’re a hard-core Windows gamer who demands the best equipment to hunt and gun down radioactive mutants, space aliens, or zombies in your favorite video game, the Avatar NZXT mouse may be what you need to elevate your gaming to the next level.
One thing I noticed immediately about the NZXT Avatar mouse was the small classy package. The box isn't much larger than the mouse and they've crammed everything inside that is needed. This small package saves shelf space, shipping cost and the environment.
We were truly impressed with the overall feel of the Avatar. It’s our gaming mouse of choice for now, even though we’ve tested some pretty good products recently, like the excellent OCZ Dominatrix.
I love the Avatar, the design, the performance, and the usability. Slick looking in matte black and chrome Blue accent and DPI indicator lighting DPI switch buttons are easier to press and locate by touch then the G5's Flat design works well for "fingertip" mouse users Software offers macros and an excellent selection of key bindings 2600 DPI IR Sensor Up to 1000Hz polling (shaves a few milliseconds off mouse movement response time) Priced fair at $60 USD MSRP (G5 is about $80) Packaged well LONG USB cable Teflon feet for minimal friction Ambidextrous Solidly built
NZXT Avatar is an awesome mouse, especially for their first one on the market, but it has one flaw. The back and forward buttons are two big, and I keep pressing them by mistake in the heat of the action (even when I’m not in it).
Even with this little problem — perhaps it’s that my hands are too big? — I recommend this mouse to any PC gamers out there.
+ Four DPI settings for great precision
+ Comfortable grip
+ Changing the DPI on the fly
+ Macro Keys
The NZXT Avatar Gaming Mouse delivers on all of its advertised claims that are geared toward taking your gaming skills to the next level. Its adjustable DPI setting, 7 programmable buttons, and attractive design make this mouse a definite competitor to other gaming mice made by Logitech, Razor, etc. Despite a couple of personal nits, overall I would recommend you consider it for your next gaming mouse purchase.
The Avatar Precision gaming mouse is a fresh, and exciting new product from NZXT.
They have entered into the gaming mouse market with a thunderous roar with this incredibly
accurate, sleek, and stylish mouse design. It has attractive blue LEDs which illuminate the
trim, and DPI setting indicator.
The NZXT Avatar mouse is really a great product, it took a couple days to get accustomed to it, but after that using it was like second nature. The small size threw me off at first, but now I like it very much, it fits perfectly in your hand and it’s as if it becomes a part of your body.
The Avatar does everything perfectly, once you get accustomed to it you’ll find it will become your favorite mouse for everything you do. The programmable buttons are great for gaming, and the adjustable DPI is great for gaming and everyday use as well.
The Avatar sports an unconventional, albeit symmetrical, narrow shape that is equally suitable for righties and lefties. It has an all black exterior, rubberized side grooves, and a lip that juts out on both sides near the palm rest. Outside the click buttons is a narrow blue strip that lights up when the mouse is plugged in, and there's even three dpi button indicators. The top surface is coated with a rubber-like substance for a non-slip grip.
The Avatar is an excellent piece of hardware from a strict performance standpoint. The rubber coating on the unit feels great on your fingertips, and the buttons are all quite responsive, with a satisfyingly “clicky” feel.
In terms of in-game performance, the unit is likewise impressive. It is really, REALLY responsive, quite accurate, and (thanks to the Teflon coated feet) very smooth to move around your mousing surface.
Futurelooks.com: Futurelooks Editor's Choice Award
I could say it’s hard not go with the NZXT Avatar overall as your next gaming mouse. It’s a comfortable, high performance mouse that looks good to boot. The price is also right, with it coming in at the same price point as many other top drawer gaming mice. As their first foray into the peripheral market, I think NZXT has really done their homework and has given us a great first impression. I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table for a keyboard. Until then, this mouse has all the right stuff and I’m happy to award it a Futurelooks Editors’ Choice.
In terms of function, the NZXT Sentry LX is one of the best fan controllers I've ever used. It allows unparalleled control with its ability to support 5 fans and monitor 5 temperatures. I was also very pleased with the ease of use. Even a beginner will find that setting up and using the Sentry LX is very intuitive. Also, the black brushed aluminum finish along with the blue lighting scheme is very stylish and should complement most cases.
Looks are usually quite an important feature, if I can call it that, in gaming products and the Avatar really delivers in this aspect. Packaging is very well done; not only does it look great, it also does a fine job at keeping the mouse safe and sound. Being so impressed by the exterior, I was hoping the mouse itself would be as great and it really is. The LED lighting is just bright enough to give it a sweet, head turning look and its shape sets it apart. The cord is long enough to easily fit any desk setup and still have some slack to give you and the mouse some freedom. Software aside, and that can be polished, the NZXT Avatar is a great choice for a gaming mouse!
Good for righties and lefties which is a somewhat rare feature in the gaming mouse market. With manufacturers going crazy to slam in as many features as possible, they un-wittingly make the mouse biased to the right handers. By keeping it simple and functional like NZXT does here, they have a true all purpose gaming rodent.
The NZXT Avatar is a great entry into the gaming mouse market. It delivers all the features we are used to from such input devices at this price point. The Avatar offers programmable buttons, which can be assigned with lengthy macros as well. The DPI setting can be adjusted all the way up to 2600 DPI with or without the software. All other functions and tweaking is done through the very solid and fully featured configuration application.
NZXT has also gone all out on the build quality, which is comparable to the likes of Razer, Logitech and Microsoft.
