Internal USB Expansion
The IU01 addresses an issue common to most gaming PCs that is a lack of substantial power and expandability from the front-panel USBs. The IU01 enhances control and boosts power for front-panel USB devices by connecting them directly to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard, ensuring that there?s always enough power to control your accessories and peripherals. The IU01 also adds six internal USB ports that are great for powering items that you don?t need constant access too like a Bluetooth module or USB wireless router allowing you to free up the external ports for additional accessories.

“Frankly, when I first looked at NZXT's IU01 internal USB module I was prepared to be underwhelmed. After putting it through its paces, I now see how wrong first impressions can be. The device performed as advertised and can really be a boon to users with insufficient USB port availability and/or power hungry USB devices. Granted, modern mobos will give a user most of this functionality, but at a relatively higher cost, and I'm unaware of any other USB hub device that can deliver 500mA to eight devices. Widely available online, the IU01 can be had for anywhere between 15-25 USD, making it a real bargain. It's ridiculously easy to install, requires no drivers or software support and just plain works.”

“So, is this little device worth ~$24 of your money? If you find yourself chronically short of ports, and hate the idea of having a hub hanging off the back of your tower, then yes. It is especially useful for those who frequently utilize bus-powered external drives, since it draws its power from the power supply directly–this helps to avoid unexpected voltage drops on the motherboard itself.  The NZXT IU01 is crafted to fill a very specific niche, and it does so without fuss, complaint, or defect. For that, I give it the TechwareLabs Seal of Approval.”

“The NZXT USB Expansion is a lot more versatile and provides more convenience than one might expect at first glance. It allows you to eliminate a powered hub from your setup, clearing up external wiring, as well as an AC plug for the hub, and AC plugs for some USB items that require them without a powered hub. It also allows for the two USB items to be plugged directly into your case without the need for a specialized USB. The two ports on the NZXT USB Expansion allow you to mount rarely disconnected items, such as mouse receivers, bluetooth or USB wireless adapters inside the case, getting them out of the way and cleaning up the look of your gear. All in all, the NZXT USB Expansion is a very interesting piece, with more benefits than you would expect. For the price, it is definitely a must have for anyone who regularly uses a powered USB hub.”

“What I would like to see is for the IU01 to be incorporated into new cases from NZXT and other manufacturers. If it was included in a new case, it would definitely be appreciated. In the end, the NZXT IU01 USB expander earns the Bigbruin.com ‘Great Idea’ award.”

“The NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion device could be very handy, but it strikes us as something you'll most want to consider when you're building a computer from scratch. But if you find yourself constantly some things plugged in all the time—whether for connectivity, storage, ReadyBoost or anything else—the IU01 is a space-friendly way to go.”

“The IU01 USB Expansion Board is a handy add-on for those who wish to get rid of external wireless dongles and to free up external USB ports on one's case. It is simple to install and does not require any drivers. Although many new motherboards have numerous USB ports I always seem to need more and the IU01 USB Expansion Board is a great way to increase one’s totally quickly and easily. I know I will be using this device for a long time. DragonSteelMods gives the IU01 USB Expansion Board a 5 out of 5 score and our Editor's Choice Award.”

“If you find yourself looking for an extra expansion slot to plug in anything from audio ports, media center interfaces, water cooling controllers, card readers, fan controllers, NZXT has presented a very unique solution for gamers or enthusiasts or even an average user. The NZXT IU01 will be the perfect piece to finish that puzzle. With the capability to warehouse infrequently removed USB receivers, Bluetooth dongles, and the ability to add up to six additional internal USB ports and two external ports all the while saving a little heat being generated by the motherboard, because your using power from the power supply, then hey I’m all for it. At a price point of only $20 you can’t go wrong especially if your motherboard only has a few internal ports to begin with.”

“After using the IU01, it is clear no compromises were made when NZXT designed it. The black PCB and sleeved wiring guarantee a sleek and clean appearance in your case. The Molex power guarantees you will have enough power for any USB device that you plug in. The IU01 accomplishes all this, while maintaining the same USB performance as you would observe with on-board USB ports. After seeing all of the features and possible uses, the $20 price tag is just right. The NZXT IU01 USB Expansion will be a welcome addition to my personal setup.”

“The NZXT UI01 USB Expansion allows you to quickly and easily add more internal USB devices as well as setup a couple of other "external" USB devices without hogging extra USB ports on the outside of your machine. A couple of uses could be internal wireless, Bluetooth, ReadyBoost or even a wireless keyboard and mouse dongle. Having this inside your case and out of the way is a great way to keep things tidy while freeing up external USB ports for other devices. The internal USB headers also help expand your possibilities. For example our test motherboard - the ASRock X58 Supercomputer only has a total of three internal USB ports - one double and one single. There is no room for expansion or adding rear USB ports on a bracket as they are all full. The IU01 helps increase the "Super" of this motherboard.”

“The NZXT IU01 USB Expansion device fills a gap in the marketplace that we didn't even realize existed until now. As I mentioned before, most motherboards today have two, three or maybe even more USB headers onboard, supporting up to two ports each, but often there's nothing to connect to them. Many computer cases have only two or sometimes four ports on the front panel, requiring the use of only one or two of the headers. Expansion hubs are available that fit into a PCI riser slot and can incorporate additional USB ports for the rear, however these sometimes interfere with other expansion cards or cables. And to my knowledge I've not seen another product that offers a USB type A female port internally. So the NZXT IU01 is pretty unique in that respect.”

“When I first saw this product I was like wow, why didn’t anyone else come up with something like this! It is so simple, yet for people like me so necessary. So some ideas of what this might be used for? Let’s start with the 6 internal USB ports you get. Many companies make front panel card readers, USB boards, and even fan controllers that use internal USB connectors. If you only have 1 or 2 internal USB connectors on your motherboard you could run into some trouble when connecting these new devices if you do not have something like the IU01 USB Expansion System. Now for the 2 external USB connectors these enable you to use things like USB Bluetooth receivers, USB wireless adapters, and in my case the 2 USB receivers for my mouse and keyboard. This way these are always connected and you don’t have to worry about losing them either. Right now NZXT is selling the IU01 USB Expansion System for $19.99, which for 8 extra USB ports is not a bad deal at all. Overall ThinkComputers gives the NZXT IU01 USB Expansion System a perfect 10 out of 10 score. It does exactly what it is made to do without any issues.”

“The NZXT IU01 has quite frankly impressed us for a product in the 20USD range. It is easy to install and provides flexibility to your system USB interfaces. Drawing power directly from the PSU for USB devices is an idea long overdue as far as we are concerned. The NZXT IU01 has earned our “TNHW Approved” award.”

“If you’re in that niche of hard-core gamers, this device is for you. With the ability to store those seldom-removed yet vulnerable USB dongles and the ability to add up to 6 additional USB ports with power supplied straight from the motherboard, the NZXT Internal USB Expansion may just give you that slight edge you need. If you have an older system without enough USB ports, the NZXT Internal USB Expansion is an inexpensive way to add more without taxing your motherboard with excessive power demands.”
