View Full Version : Quirky External Firewire connector? . . .

Since my MoBo has no Firewire header, I have a PCI Firewire adapter with a standard, internal 6-pin connector. I also have a special adapter cable--6-pin to individual leads--that connects to the Lexa's Firewire connector via the six color-coded leads.

Well, the performance when using that configuration is slow at best, sometimes not even showing the contents of, say, a Compact Flash reader plugged into the front panel connector. Plugging the same reader directly into the PCI adapter card's internal connector works perfectly . . . meaning that it has to be the fault of my special adapter cable OR the Lexa's somewhat flimsy front panel Firewire connector.

Does anyone have any success stories or suggestions to get full function out of the front panel connector? Thanks!

I think this is a question for all the other Lexa owners, however, i'll see if i can get any feedback from our System integrators that use the Lexa.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

Yes, I'm eager to hear what the others have to say.

Note, I've since taken a look at my Lexa's "front panel" USB/audio/Firewire printed circuit board & connectors . . . and they all seem to be in good shape. Will have to run some more tests to determine exactly what's happening, but I've even received BSODs when plugging a Firewire device into that socket. Again, the rest of my PCI Firewire adapters work flawlessly with the same device, so I'm fairly sure that it's an issue with the Lexa's implementation of the front panel connector and/or cabling. Maybe shielding?
