So anyone else playing this kick ass MMO yet? It has replaced CoH for me. Its just so much better for people like me who dont have tons of time to sit in front of the PC and play an MMO, You dont have to spend all your time playing to advance and have fun.

I'm not playing it but have heard good things. I think I'm going to wait for Guild Wars to come out. I heard that have dresigned Guild Wars to be a MMO that anyone can pick up and play.

I don't know...
does WOW cost monthly fee?
I know that MMO like FF XI has a monthly fee and that really sucks!
<= is sticking with the free MMOs

WoW has a monthly fee like virtually all other MMOs. Its 14.99 monthly but it goes down if you buy like 3 or 6 months at a time.

I think it's funny that game companies charge people money for playing a game online. Is it not enough we bought the game and pay for high speed internet to play the game? Sometimes it's just sad.

Don't give the reason that they charge for server maintenance. Keeping the servers up doesn't cost that much that they have to charge millions of people $15 (I know a million is alot but hey I'm trying to stress my point).

Tenshi

Havok has a point
I mean if they charged the millions 1$ they would still be making profit while being able to maintain hte servers open
I mean there are many free servers out there for some MMOs like for RO
And they stay open without too much trouble
And people will donate if they like the server and the game
so...
Charging such high prices is exageration

Now I don't know 100% what it takes to run a server that can hold that many people that play WoW, Evercrack, and City of Heros. I might be 100% wrong. I just think it's a way for companies to profit off people who really enjoy playing these type of games.

Anyone ever heard what it takes to run these servers and what kind of money the comapnies put into them?

the monthly fees also pay for the updates. These arent like most games where once its out the door the devs are done aside from maybe a patch or 2, they are constantly updating them. I do think that they should charge a little less, im sure it cant cost so much that they need to charge thousands of people $15 a month, but whatever. If i enjoy the game, then i guess i dont really mind paying for it. Its the same with XBL, ill pay for the service cuz its about 1000 times better than PS2 online.

$15 a month is a trip to your favorite fast food restaurant for lunch. It's really not that much in the big scheme of things. If you're that worried about it, then you are better off in the free MMORPS and their lack of support, updates, features, and patches.
I'm not trying to put the free ones down, I've spent many an hour playing them, but there's something to be said about the paid games that just can't had in the free ones (graphics usually, but gameplay as a whole as well).
Guild Wars is going to be free, but they will be pushing upgrade (updates that you have to buy) so in the long run, their pitch that it's going to be free once you buy it seems somewhat shady. That's my opinion of it at least.
Here's some screenshots of WoW for those of you who haven't seen it yet:

I cant recommed WoW enough to those of you that havent played it. ive played EQ, EQ2, SWQ, DAoC, CoH, Lineage2, and a couple free MMOs that i cant recall the names of, and WoW is the most fun ive had with this genre so far. Guild Wars is the only MMO that i can see offering as much fun, and who knows how that will turn out once its released since its free. People are gonna flood to it, which mean lag and server crashes. I doubt the game will stay free, i just dont see them being able to do it long term.

2 things I'm going to say.

1) From alot of the reviews I've read of Guild Wars it sounds like it's going to be a game that anyone can play and not be restricted by being new to the game and not have the exp.

2) Does anyone play any of the Bioware games? Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate, and a couple others?? I know they are old but Baldurs Gate was awesome and I was really happy with Neverwinter Nights.

Vampirehunter_j
01-11-2005, 12:20 PM
Yeah the little bit ive heard about it sounds interesting. We'll see if it'll be able to replace WoW. Might be sick of WoW by then, who knows.

CTD-Havok

I've only played 1 MMOG and that was City of Heros and had a blast but couldn't see myself getting crazed like some people. I guess that's why I'm a little amped for Guild Wars because they are both made by the same peeps.

You'll like GW if you liked CoH, kinda had the same feel. Did you play the beta over the weekend?

CTD-Havok
01-12-2005, 12:10 PM
No I didn't know they had an open beta. I beta tested the Joint Operations games and to be honest beta testing is more of a pain then it is fun IMO. But I do look forward to playing GW.

Vampirehunter_j

Ive beta tested several games, used to get tons of beta disks when i worked at an EB, and i found its an interesting experience. But it can indeed be a pain in the ass. When i did the beta for Age of Mythology multiplayer, it was a huge pain in the ass just to connect to games.

Yeah Ive played the beta. From what Ive played of it, its very good but i still like WoW better so far.

Value wise, it will be very tough for WoW to compete with SOE now that SWG is on the pass. But, it is probably good...keeps the servers on any specific game from getting too crushed. Funny thing is GW may be a great game, but people feel that they need to play the games (Wow or the 3 major / 4 minor games of SoE pass) they pay for. Will be interesting to see where the world goes. I hope Guild Wars owns, but I suppose I don't expect it to.

CTD-Havok

I'll buy it to check it out I think.

Vampirehunter_j
01-17-2005, 08:33 AM
You actually like SWG? Wow, dont think ive ever seen anyone say that before. Make a jedi yet?

CTD-Havok
01-17-2005, 02:44 PM
Again I would played that game but I'm not going to pay to play it. Lucas makes enough to keep the servers up for free.

Thyril
01-17-2005, 08:27 PM
No Jedi...most time is on EQ2, but to get EQ1, EQ2, SWG and their filler games all for $17 / month is a pretty sweet deal. I hate Lucas as much as I hate Microsoft...problem is...no formidable competition. I do like SWG now that space is in there. Problem is it is very "open"...not enough quest based stuff.

Vampirehunter_j
01-18-2005, 09:12 AM
Thats cool, I didnt like SWG from what i played of the beta, then i played on a friends account a lil bit and still wasnt impressed. But the SOE pass is an awesome deal. You play planetside or whatever the FPS is called? I heard that was cool.

Thyril
01-18-2005, 08:42 PM
Haven't done Planetside, but you would think SOE would send it to me for free for all the cash they get out of me :)

Then again, with the lousy weather in MN, it keeps me occupied.

For the Horde!! :)

Vampirehunter_j

Horde all the way. Love killing the alliance. Although blizzard seems to favor the alliance at the moment, they really need to nerf paladins, or atleast add something like a shadowknight from EQ to counteract them. Shamans kinda do, but pallys are stronger and get plate armor

NZXT_Dood
01-19-2005, 06:22 AM
Pallys get somewhere around 3 or 4 lives with heal, immunity, and lay on hands. Not to mention they even have a stun ability. Anyway, the pallys are quite annoying to kill and the alliance usually completely outweight the hordes in terms of #.

Vampirehunter_j
01-19-2005, 11:33 PM
Yeah I avoid pallys when i do any PvP cuz of the 3 life thing. They really need a nerf.

XxCowboyxX
02-19-2005, 07:35 AM
Sup guys, I'm on Thunderhorn. On Horde side of course, the pally is a bit overpowered but if you try to fight a shammie it's the same thing. They have enough instant stuff to kill you quick. But only thing that kills me without me having a chance is a damn mage. Lvl 54 Tauren warrior, ID: Xereau, look me up sometime and we can go kill some damn alliance towns
