if you dont wanna play any new games, then the 5200 would be fine. But if you wanna play any newer games, dont go with anything less than a 5600. Personally i would recommend the Radeon cards, that what im gonna get. If your not a hardcore gamer, the 9600XT would be more than good enough for you.
You can find the 5200 for even less. Ok alot less. Keep looking.

but if he is only looking to play like counter-strike he doesnt need anything as fancy as a 9600XT or a 9800 Pro, a 9600 non pro would be good enough for him, or even a NON-XT FX 5600. do not buy the 5600xt it sucks

for that price, he could get a 9600 pro, which is better...

With Prices for a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Meg Card averaging around 200 Bucks, there just isn't a Video Card around that will give you more bang for the buck, and keep you in the Deep, Emersive, Gamming Experience that once your exposed to, will definately keep you satisfied. I found mine at Egghead for 209(Free FedEX Saver Shipping) and would recomend it to anyone. The performance difference between a 9800 Pro and the X800 Pro isn't enough to justify upgrading, nor is upgrading to a 9800XT worth the price diferential. Anything less and you'll be looking again in a few months.

personally if he is not a big gamer I would say go for the 5200 it does what is needed for now and is what I have in my system, problem is I am a gamer and I am struggling with it a bit, going to be upgrading video in next 2 - 4 weeks thought ...YAAAAY
I would get the 9600 Pro. Great card for the price. NewEgg has it for around $130-$150.
BTW, just a question, but I got a Radeon 9600 Pro (I think). The box just says that it's a Radeon 9600, but my computer sees it as a 9600 Pro. Is the box just mislabeled or what. I'm pretty sure that's the case, since I trust the computer more than the box, but I'm still not positive.
Get the Gainward 5900XT. Then go DL a 5950 ultra bios and flash it. Viola, a 5950 for half the cost.
