I would get either Kingston or Crucial ram if I were you, since they both have lifetime warranties and they're the best.

If I were you, I'd wait a week or so, until Newegg (if you insist on buying there) carries the new lower-end 939 chips. That way you have upward expandability in the future, since 939 is becoming the standard AMD socket. That should keep you for a while.
Also, I don't know your timeframe, but it may be wise to wait another month or so if it's possible. The Radeon X700 should be out then, and NVidia's 6600's are out. And motherboards featuring Via's K8T890 chipset should be out for the AMD platform with PCI-EX support. That should keep you pretty future-resistant since you won't need a whole new platform in the future and not be too expensive to boot.

I would definately recommend a socket 939 if you're going AMD.
The lower end AMD chips (3000+) start about $188 on pricewatch.

Thanks.
Is it worth it to get a processor higher than 3000 b/c the 3200 is about $220ish.

Well, I don't know your budget. From the looks of the PC you had posted, I would guess not too high, so I was loathe to suggest something you couldn't afford.
If you can afford a better processor, so much the better :)

I have a job, so I just want a nice comp. How do the other parts look though. Video Card, motherboard...
...oh by the way i have a soundblaster. I am going to take it out of one of my other comps.:)
Thanks,
Charlie

Like I said, if it's at all possible, I'd wait for a motherboard sporting via's K8T890 chipset or NForce 4 (or whatever it's gonna be called) supporting PCI-EX.
And I'd go with a midrange (around $200) PCI-EX video card (preferably one supporting SLI).

Do I smell an upgrade??? :) P.S. You're reading my mind - GET OUT! j/k I'm thinking about upgrading. X700 was on the short list (when it arrives) and PCI Express - hehehe - also waiting on the Abit AX8 or a non-existant Asus AMD 64 PCI Express board. The only drawback for me on the AX8 is it doesn't do DDR2.

nod, but I can live with DDR for right now. Since I'm completely building a PC from scratch (only thing I'm retaining is monitor/keyboard/mouse/AVR), I'll be happy to go with cheaper DDR and buy DDR2 next time when dual cores are available.

Excellent choice. I recommend the version 2 (not 1.2) of the board which is in the WHITE BOX and doesn't have the wifi access point, but version 2 does have a working PCI/AGP lock if you plan on overclocking.

If I remember correctly, Samsung memory is actually pretty good. They make their own chips (unlike most memory brands), and have pretty good latency.

On a budget I'd get this Athlon 64 3500+ (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-460&depa=0) and if not - the FX-53.
Here's the New 90nanometer AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=120423&Category_Code=NA_2) for $309 at Monarch.

Do you have to have special (*not free) software to burn dvd's. How much are the programs?

There is a variety available.
If I'm not mistaken, some usually comes with a retail version of the drive.

Newegg now has the Socket 940 FX-53 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?DEPA=0&description=19-103-437&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&ATT=Microprocessors+PC) for $599.00 (but it won't work with the AV8)
Price release probably due to imminent 4000+ and FX-55 release in a week and a half. The 3500+ will probably dip a bit, too, if you're still looking at that.
